We live in a world where "stress" is as an acceptable state as breathing. I hear it every day: people complaining how stressed they are, people stressing each other, work stress, traffic stress, family stress and don't forget the new edition to the "stress bouquet" - religion stress. Truly the list of medically recognized types of stress are just too long to mention. This is quite troubling because not for a single second do I believe God placed stress in the lives of humanity which He loves so much!
Did Jesus Christ not promise us the following: John 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid." Jesus knew the enemy would device plans to rob us from Gods peace. He will do everything in his evil power to remove you from Gods presence, from His will, from His love. He will device plans and strategies which cause you to think that stress in your live is bigger than God. But Jesus Christ GIVES his peace. Freely. He left it so our hearts know that God is Peace. So why do we continue to take the stress candy from the evil stranger?
Stress (or the nicer term: anxiety) is mostly caused by something. A mere reaction to an action or anticipation of an action that will throw your live in a spin cycle. Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God." I've learned this: to be thankful. Even when things don't turn out the way I thought it would, or anticipated. After praying and leaving my stress-mess burden with God, for His yoke is by far easier, I can walk away with peace, knowing my request was made known to Him.
But let's be honest for a while? It's not easy. My grandfather used to say: "It's not easy to be an adult." Today I know why. I have to make difficult choices, stick to my decisions (which is a challenge on its own sometimes) and take responsibility for my actions. One thing I'm not, is perfect and I battle to keep my focus on Heaven. But we need to build our foundation in the Lord by building a relationship with Him. Reading His word. Believing His word. Loving His word. It brings us closer to be righteous in His eyes. Psalm 55:22 "Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved." Gods word promises that not only will he take the stress from you, but He will sustain you! You are His created, chosen one whom He loves more than anything and will never allow anything to move you from where you are with Him. With the Word foundation under your feet, when the enemy wants to creepy crawl over your threshold, just point to the warning sign stating: NO STRESS PERMITTED!"
So what is stress actually? Do you still believe that your stress is bigger than God? Stressed about what God is going to do with your stress? He can handle it. We are just to stiff-necked sometimes to be humble before the Lord and submit our deepest anxieties and fears to Him. He promises to set you free when you call to Him. He tells you repeatedly that you are not alone and the He is with you. Psalm 118:5-6 "Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?"
So, what is stress actually?
