You know when you throw a pebble into a lake, those beautiful circular ripples that grows bigger and bigger until momentum flattens them out again? You know the beautiful multiple ripples a stone creates when you skip it over the serene surface? And you know the unmistakable plonking splash of a rock hitting the water? Well this past week my life felt like I was standing under a rock slide and rock after rock was taking turns to uninvited plonk into my lake. I'm referring to the rough, unpolished normal rocks. Not pretty stones or polished pebbles. ROCKS!
The moment I thought: "Well this was the last one" the next one would hit. I was feeling negative, hurt and could not see the good of it anymore. As I opened my social page, I saw images posted "Jesus is my rock" and "I will hold on to my Rock". I know that Jesus is my Rock. I knew I will get through this and He will place me on a rock out of harms way. But this didn't sooth my soul. At that very moment it didn't feel like these inspiring words did anything. Needless to say I just closed the application, not wanting to see this any more.
I turned to God: asking, crying praying...
By the time the ripples start to flatten out, I took rock for rock and placed them before the cross. As I packed them out God took them and broke them open revealing the abundance hidden between the rugged edges. Psalm 78:15 "He split the rocks in the wilderness And gave them abundant drink like the ocean depths." He truly split them open when I was standing thirsty in the wilderness and the abundance of His life giving water filled the depths of my soul. I started to see each situation turn as God placed His hand over these rocks. It change from being life shattering to life changing. I could see the change in people who threw the rocks. I could see how God touched them through the whole situation too, and for that I'm standing before God with a grateful heart.
Take the rocks before God. Jesus already split them when He died and rose for us. No rock in your life is too big or ugly for Him. Hidden inside is the beautiful gems of Gods promised abundance.
It's not always easy when rocks come hurling your way like a meteor shower. But let them come. My God split rocks so I can live in abundance!
