Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive, who is youer than you! – Dr. Suess
These words carry so much truth and wisdom! And I came to fully appreciate this after reading an article on the Idealist Revolution webpage, about the uniqueness of our tears. The article starts with these words:
These words carry so much truth and wisdom! And I came to fully appreciate this after reading an article on the Idealist Revolution webpage, about the uniqueness of our tears. The article starts with these words:
One day Rose-Lynn Fisher wondered if her tears of grief would look different compared to her tears of joy, so she began to explore them up close under a microscope. She studied 100 different tears and found that basal tears (the ones that our body produces to lubricate our eyes) are drastically different from the tears that happen when we are chopping onions. The tears that come about from hard laughter aren’t even close to the tears of sorrow. Like a drop of ocean water each tiny tear drop carries a microcosm of human experience.
No tears are alike, just like no person is alike! Wow, how well planned is every intimate detail of every single living being, if God did not even copy our tears? Tears are such a great reflection of our emotions. We cry when we are glad, we cry when we are sad, we cry when we are upset, and sometimes we even cry without knowing or understanding the reason ourselves!
“I have called you by name; you are Mine!” – Isaiah 43:1b
We were created to stand out, not to blend in. And God reminded me of this a couple of days after I read the story about tears. That specific morning I felt an urgency to pick up my pen and a piece of paper, and God directed my thoughts to make notes of the devotional we have just finished – Love’s Gift. I can’t remember when last I wrote more than just my name on a form, or made my signature on a line. And that morning I wrote four pages in less than an hour. Apart from the amazement of how quickly the thoughts formed in my mind, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I realized just how unique my handwriting is. I’ve seen my handwriting thousands of times before, but never really thought about the fact that no one else writes exactly like me. And that no one will ever be able to copy my signature, to make it exactly the way I do it. It is actually so precious, and it is all part of my one of a kind and irreplaceable package of tears and fingerprints!
A couple of days after reading the article about our tears, and the realization of exactly how valuable each and every one of us are to Him, God guided me to the verse in 1 Corinthians 15:41 - "The sun is glorious in one way, the moon is glorious in another way, and the stars are glorious in their own distinctive way; for one star differs from and surpasses another in its beauty and brilliance."
I was speechless! To think that God truly planned me way before my parents ever did. And that I am indeed here to make my own unique imprint on this world. There is no need to try and copy someone else, because God didn’t copy someone else to create me. I am uniquely created, with my own exclusive purpose.
If you still don’t get the bigger picture, take a moment and think about all of this. Why do we believe our handwriting should look like a Microsoft font? And why do we feel obligated to dress to impress? Instead of just dressing to be comfortable? And why do we believe only tears cried in Hollywood is important?
You are way more significant to God than anything or anyone you could compare yourself with. God created speech, so don’t worry about your handwriting. God is also not impressed by fashion, so dress comfortably to be able to go onto your knees and pray. And He cares about your tears so much, that not one of them will ever go to waste! “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in Your bottle. You have recorded each one in Your book.” – Psalm 56:8
You are special! He handcrafted you with love, made you an individual, and He knows you by name!
May you experience His love in abundance.
