Wednesday was a long and hectic day for me, my husband got home really tired, and apparently the kids had a rough day as well. After I’ve set the dinner table, my 5 year old daughter decided that she didn’t feel like potato salad as a side and started crying, and my 2 year old son followed shortly while he was screaming at the top of his lungs (he missed his afternoon nap for some unknown reason?). Needless to say, dinner was cancelled! Our usual peaceful family time around the dinner table was ruined. We had to settle for second hand time, and just swallowed our food to not go to bed hungry.
I believe in giving credit where it is due, but I also realize that we sometimes give the devil way too much credit for chaos in our lives. John 10:10 (a) “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.” It is sometimes easier to blame the devil, than to analyze the situation and deal with everything that is dragging us down. I know and fully understand that it can be exhausting to really dig deep in your past and to face your current situation, to be able to take back control. But there comes a time in your life where you need to say “devil, this is enough, you will not steal from me any longer, and I will not allow you to destroy my future!” And the good news is, once we learn to surrender to God and allow God to fully function in our lives, we can experience true joy. |
Our pastor always says, happiness depends on what happens to you. And if you use our dinner table pandemonium as an example, you will notice that none of my family members experienced happiness Wednesday evening, but it didn’t steel our joy! Because joy does not depend on what happens to you, it depends on your relationship with God.
John 10:10 (b) “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” God does not only want to give you joy, He wants to give it to you in abundance. What an awesome promise!
Are you still a victim of your circumstances? Or do you already experience inner joy? An ecstasy for life that does not depend on your surroundings. A gladness that only God can give!
Whenever you feel like your life is erupting in chaos, remember that greater is HE who is in you, than he that is in the world! (1 John 4:4)
