“Religion does make a person very rich, if he is satisfied with what he has. For the love of money is a source of all kinds of evil. Some have been so eager to have it that they have wandered away from the faith and have broken their hearts with many sorrows.” 1 Timothy 6:6, 10
In Matthew 6:24 it reads that ‘You cannot serve both God and money’. Is it then wrong to have money? The answer is simple, no it is not wrong. The important question is, what is the conviction of your heart? Making more money to glorify yourself and your ego, or to make more money to glorify God and build His Kingdom? If I can focus my thoughts on God, I become content with who I am and with where I fit into society, and my sense of belonging no longer relies no how much I earn or what I own.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the riches You give me every day by being able to say that I belong to You! Please help me to accept Your perfect plan for my life, and to move my focus away from how much I earn in worldly terms, to how much I am worth in Your Kingdom. I know that money is not the source of all evil, but it is a source of all sorts of evil. Father, please remind me of the everlasting value of spending eternity with You, instead of my own efforts where I tend to focus on the temporary value of the glitz and glamour of this world. Amen
