“They went and stood before Moses, Eleazar the priest, the leaders, and the whole community at the entrance of the Tent of the Lord’s presence and said: ‘Our father died in the wilderness without leaving any sons. Just because he had no sons, why should our father’s name disappear from Israel? Give us property among our father’s relatives.’ Moses presented their case to the Lord, and the Lord said to him: ‘What the daughters of Zelophehad request is right; give them property among their father’s relatives.” – Numbers 27: 2-7
How often do we feel too shy or intimidated to present our case and speak up? We can really learn something from the daughters of Zelophehad, who realized that they had no brother to inherit their father’s property, and decided to present their case to all the important decision makers of Israel. And then we can furthermore learn something from the way Moses handled this. His eyes was focused on God, and God only. He didn’t first discuss it with the other leaders or asked the rest of the people how they feel about it. He immediately presented the case to the Lord, and waited for an answer from Him.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please guide me in all the numerous decisions I need to make every day. Help me to not rely on myself, but to rather seek Your heavenly wisdom. Holy Spirit, please direct my thoughts and my words today, so that I will not stand speechless if I need to present a case to someone, but that I will have the courage to speak up. Amen
