A couple of weeks ago we had a slumber party at our house, with two of my daughter’s cousins who came to visit. The whole evening went according to plan…until bedtime! The kids had a good night’s sleep, but this mommy not at all. Because you see, with three toddlers and a baby in the house, who all had their own demands during the night, I ended with three hours sleep at the most. My sleep disruptions varied from normal things like going to the bathroom, to more dramatic things like nightmares, to absolute unnecessary things like the camp mattress that decided to deflate! I was totally sleep deprived by the time the sun decided to rise over a brand new day. Luckily there is a real easy solution to physical tiredness, you just catch up on another day. Because a good night’s rest promise to leave you fresh and ready for the new day.
Unfortunately the answer and solution to emotional and spiritual tiredness is not as easy as just getting a good night’s rest. Maybe you are one of the people who feel totally drained today? And maybe you feel like you have more problems than answers at the moment? And maybe you have tried every possible quick fix on the market, only to realize that it lasts for a very short period of time, and thereafter you go back to your miserable state? And maybe you have read testimonies, just to wonder when your beautiful ending will actually start? And maybe you look with admiration at the happy people around you, just to sceptically wonder if anyone can really be that happy at all? If any of these sound like some of the unanswered problems in your life, I want to share a reliable solution with you today. The solution is Jesus Christ! |
1Thessalonians 5:16 - 23 “Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesying. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
But I don’t want to share that you need to quickly read the Bible in the morning, and then say a hurried prayer while you brush your teeth, hoping that it will last the entire day. NO, I want to share Jesus with passion on a spiritual level! Because our joy and peace don’t only consist of keeping the body happy; but it involves keeping our body, spirit and soul in line with God’s Word. The bad news, is that there is no quick fix for everlasting restoration of the body, spirit and soul. You will have to make the definite decision to change your life, and then live it every day. Because you see, you can’t serve God in the morning, and then move Him aside when you wish to satisfy your flesh in the evening. No, you will have to make the choice to serve Him 24 hours, every single day, without exception and without excuses. 1 Peter 2:11 “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.”

The problem with only reading a quick devotional and saying a rushed prayer in the morning, is that you feed your emotions for only a small part of the day; but you don’t feed your spirit to last the whole day. The moment you start living Jesus, your life will make a U-turn, automatically! To truly serve God entails that you will have to start praying about everything in your life (doesn’t matter how small and insignificant it feels to you – everything about you matters to God), and get into relationship to be able to pick up God’s heartbeat and love for you. You need to genuinely believe that God is a good God who looks after His children, and not a God who wish to punish His children. And you will have to start living a life of victory and thankfulness (even if you feel that you don’t have any reason to be victorious or thankful!). |
You see, the moment you make these conscious decisions on a daily basis, your spirit will be able to make a connection with God’s Spirit. The Holy Spirit will intercede, and your emotions will be nourished out of your ‘perfect spirit’ (which is nourished by a perfect God, in the form of the Holy Spirit); compared to your old lifestyle where your emotions depended on your non-perfect body (the world).
What you focus on, expands. As long as you keep focusing on everything that is not according to your wishes, your life will never really find direction and meaning. But the moment you put your trust in our consistent, trustworthy and unshakable Saviour, you will be astonished with how perfect He will start to put the pieces of your puzzle together. Jeremiah 31:25 “For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.”
God have passed the test of Superiority through the ages, why don’t you give Him a chance today? Make the conscious decision to make a U-turn, and give our Redeemer the opportunity to show you the true meaning of life in abundance! And if you have made the decision before, but still feel empty inside, just pray to our Rescuer. He is waiting for your prayer, and He will answer it, no doubt! Isaiah 55:7 “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
