Snakes & Ladders
For some weird reason we don’t have a copy of the popular board game snakes and ladders. So when my daughter asked to play the game, I had to make a plan. And what nicer plan than to sit with your child and design your own board, colour the blocks and draw snakes and ladders!
For some weird reason we don’t have a copy of the popular board game snakes and ladders. So when my daughter asked to play the game, I had to make a plan. And what nicer plan than to sit with your child and design your own board, colour the blocks and draw snakes and ladders!
As we were playing (and I calculated a loss on my side!), a thought crossed my mind. We can sort of compare life to a game of snakes and ladders. Sometimes luck is on your side. With the roll of the dice you end at the bottom of the ladder, and you get promoted. And other times, just as you think things are going according to your plan, you step on a snake and down, down, down you go…just to start all over! And as you slide down you can see the other players giggling, enjoying your downfall. So in summary, snakes and ladders involves a lot of luck and a great hand that rolls the dice.
“I am afraid that your minds will be corrupted and that you will abandon your full and pure devotion to Christ – in the same way that Eve was deceived by the snake’s clever lies.” – 2 Corinthians 11:3
After a couple of games of snakes and ladders (with me losing the majority of rounds!), I came to the realisation that the enemy tried to convince me of something that is utterly incorrect. The truth is that the moment you surrender your whole being to our Creator, He gives you the authority to step on snakes (not to be swallowed by them!) and remove the lies of the enemy. “Listen! I have given you authority, so that you can walk on snakes and scorpions and overcome all the power of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you.” Luke 10:19. In the Kingdom of God we don’t need to rely on luck, we need to rely on faith! As James 1:3 puts it “…the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and steadfastness and patience.” And apart from faith we need a very thick skin to resist the lies of the devil.
You have a choice of what you make and take out of life. God only wants to promote us! And He wants to fill the voids, every single area of confusion, and every part of your being, with heavenly peace and abundance. But we need to believe it! We need to tap into the power we receive through the Holy Spirit, and we need to step out in authority. “They are like trees that grow beside a stream, that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do!” – Psalm 1:3
Don’t strive to survive, strive to thrive!
