Lately it seems like the “bad news” just escalates and grows to spread like a malicious incurable cancer. I want to clamp my hands over my ears and run away when I hear the words “Have you heard...?” I try not to read the newspaper headlines paraded on lamp poles when I drive past. I feel like those three little monkeys: See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.
Everywhere I look troubles are draining hope. Troubles escalate and hope dwindles. I noticed it's a lot easier for people to carry over the "bad news" (with their opinion added, of course) than to give a silver lining of hope. In this last month only we faced the removal of historic statues. Why? I still haven't heard a very reasonable explanation as to why. Then the outbreak of Xenophobia. Not just in South Africa, but the neighboring countries as well. Then I see this beautiful young women on Facebook kidnapped and murdered for a few Rand. "But it's just the world" I try to convince myself. I had coffee with a friend who shared her heart breaking story with me. (I booted the "just the world" idea). That night I looked up at the stars and asked the question I believe so many of us asked: "Why does troubles happen God?" |
Trouble started when the serpent slithered into the perfect garden of God. It started small, with one sin of mankind and snowballed through millenniums to the uncountable troubles we face daily. We will NEVER know of all the troubles in the world. Not even all the troubles your best friend goes through. But God does. The hairs on your head are accounted for by Him why would He not know the troubles of the world? The troubles of your heart?
"I will be glad and rejoice in your unfailing love, for you have seen my troubles, and you care about the anguish of my soul" Psalm 31:7
Whatever troubles the world might conjure up to torment our souls, God knows them. And because of His unfailing love, He cares. Unfortunately the break in the equation comes in when we turn from God and solitary try to solve the troubles of the world. We try to be heroes on our own accord and fail miserably. However we forget: we have Jesus Christ. Our Savior and our Salvation. Who by spilling His blood and overcoming death, saved our souls for eternity. For all the troubles of the world Jesus has redeemed it all. Knowing this, I gladly hand over the anguish of my soul to God. Troubles... meet the Redeemer.
Shalom Shalom.
