Yesterday was a very disappointing day for me. I received the opportunity to do work for a well-known company, and as any other person in business would do, I went into performance mode and really tried my best to do work beyond expectation. After an exhausting week of sending samples back and forth, receiving the go ahead for the work and mailing the final proof for sign off, they came back yesterday telling me that they prefer the initial raw samples I e-mailed them?!! It is hard to imagine how many thoughts went through my head simultaneously when I read the e-mail!
“O keep me, Lord, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed or disappointed, for my trust and my refuge are in You.” ~Psalm 25:20
“O keep me, Lord, and deliver me; let me not be ashamed or disappointed, for my trust and my refuge are in You.” ~Psalm 25:20
My thoughts varied from ‘maybe they don’t know what they want’ (as I’ve executed the task at hand exactly according to their instruction) to ‘maybe I’m just not good enough?’. I’m sure almost everyone can relate to these rollercoaster emotions, maybe just in different situations? Am I good enough? Do I know what I’m doing? What exactly is the problem? What if I am the problem? Or what if you are on a power trip? Thus meaning you are the problem, not me!? And sometimes we have these exact same emotions with co-followers of Christ when things don’t work out according to plan. Am I good enough to serve in the Body of Christ? Do I know what I’m doing? Do I know my Bible well enough? What exactly went wrong with ‘the plan’? What if I am the problem? Or what if you are on a power trip? Thus meaning you are the problem, not me!? |
“Hear, O daughter, consider, submit, and consent to my instruction. The King’s daughter in the inner part is all glorious; her clothing is inwrought with gold.” ~Psalm 45:10, 13
I had a couple of options on how to handle the situation. One option would have been to get nasty and difficult, as I have completed the task at hand according to their instruction. But another option was to remind myself that I am royalty! And the daughter of the King can choose her attitude. I reminded myself that they are paying for the work I’m doing, and that I cannot allow my ego to get in the way. Who am I to question their need? So I took a breather, made myself a cup of coffee, went back to my desk and replied in a gentle way to their e-mail, asking for clarity, and thereafter executed only and exactly that. But I first had to get rid of ‘me’, to be able to focus on them.
“And He said to me, ‘It is done!’ I am the Alpha & Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without price from the fountain of the water of Life.” ~Revelation 21:6
We need to renew our thoughts on a daily basis, and remind ourselves that Jesus already paid the price. Who are we to question God’s will? We are the daughters of the highest King! We can’t allow our egos to get in the way of doing the work of our Father. Relax, get out of performance mode, and allow God to work through you. It is no longer about me or you, but all about Him! We need to submit, and consent to God’s instructions. Cleanse yourself on the inside, so that your thoughts and actions will become a surplus of gold. An abundance of good work. A sparkling part of the fountain of Life!
Let the King’s love shine through you. Because you are worthy to be called the daughter of a King!
