Don’t we all like to complain about paying tolls and taxes? And how often do you hear conversations where people justify why they shouldn’t pay some kind of government or license fee? Even back in the days of Jesus there were all sorts of taxes and fees payable, and Jesus set the perfect example of accepting authority when Peter confirmed that his Teacher does indeed pay the temple tax. Let us rather follow the example, instead of justifying why we shouldn’t be paying. Even back then the citizens clearly complained about the temple tax, and most probably didn’t want to pay it. Yet Jesus paid it, so let us follow His example. There is blessing in accepting authority (See Romans 13:1 & Proverbs 29:16).
Prayer: Today is a good day to confess if you have been refusing to pay some sort of tax, toll or fee to a governing authority. And make the commitment to stop complaining, and rather accept authority (even if it is difficult, and you don’t believe that it is fair).
Spiritual growth: The only thing you need to do today, is to pay outstanding taxes, tolls, school fees, your TV license or whatever other fees you maybe still have outstanding. If you don’t have the money to pay it all at once, phone and make an arrangement to pay it off. God blesses obedience, but rejects an argumentative attitude.
