My parents laid the basic foundation for my life. They taught me through their own mistakes, that perfect shouldn’t be the aim, but love! I don’t want to excuse any bad behaviour, but I do need to say that I doubt if any parent will make mistakes out of spite or on purpose, whilst raising their children? Every parent believe that they are doing the right thing (even though they sometimes sadly repeat bad cycles). God teaches us to honor our parents, despite their imperfect nature. There is no need to duplicate their mistakes or ponder upon the past, but we need to show appreciation, respect them, and love them.
Prayer: If you carry any hurt, bitterness or blame in your heart towards your parents, please do surrender it to God in prayer. Set yourself as well as your parents free, and break the cycle. And if most of your childhood memories are good, thank God for great parents! Pray for daily wisdom in raising your own children / grandchildren.
Journal entry: Write down a couple of your best childhood memories!
