At the beginning of Summer I decided that it was time to redo our garden! And ever since I can’t stop reading each and every story I can possibly lay my hands on regarding gardening. And coincidentally I read a discussion the other day about how to plant the pit of an avocado. How do you put it in the bottle, how much sun does it need and when can you relocate it to your garden?
One person mentioned that he never plants it in a bottle, but that he always plant it immediately into fertile soil in the garden. Because apparently the secret to a successful avocado tree, is that you need to faithfully water it every day for four years. After four years of hard duty, you will be able to enjoy the delicious avocado fruit, and you will never need to water it again. You see, an avocado tree needs a lot of water to make sure that the tree roots itself deep down where it will be able to find enough water to sustain itself. But without enough water during the first four years, the roots will be too shallow to support itself later on.
Imagine if all of us can apply the avocado principle in our own lives? Picture this: You are planted as a tree in God’s garden, and allowed to grow free and spontaneous. For four years you devote time every day to read and meditate on God’s Word. You don’t miss one single day, to ensure that your spiritual roots grow strong enough to anchor you for the rest of your life. Just imagine how strong your relationship will grow with God during this four year period? You will become a radical and unstoppable warrior for Christ! But we know, four years is a long time to wait, so we will rather challenge you with something more realistic for now (to prepare you with your four year journey…) |
The Avocado Challenge:
Read God’s Word for four weeks each and every day without any compromises. But permit yourself enough time to meditate on God’s Word (pray about what you’ve read, and ask God to reveal Himself to you), and allow God to water your Avocado tree properly, so that your roots will be so established after four weeks, that you will experience a relationship with God that you have never experienced before! We suggest that you allow yourself at least ten minutes every day, but the more time you have the more intense your experience will be.
1 Timothy 4:15 “Practice and cultivate and meditate upon these duties; throw yourself wholly into them, so that your progress may be evident to everybody.”
And to support you in your four week challenge, we will post scripture to read and something to think about every morning. You will be amazed at how different God reveals Himself to different people, so please invite and share this challenge with your family, friends and work colleagues! And if possible, create a BBM / Whatsapp group with your friends and family, and discuss every day’s scripture with each other. If you do not have anyone to share and grow, you are welcome to inbox us your details and we will add you to the Women of the Word Devotional Whatsapp Group.
