South Africa is a country where we enjoy our rugby. And when we watch rugby we get all emotional, we get involved in the game, and we become the referee. But we are refereeing from the side-line! As if we can see things the referee is missing, and as if we know some hidden rules of the game that the referee never learned? And to top it all, we are bad losers. If the referee doesn’t blow his whistle the way we want him to, we take on the ref and the game and the rules! Anything out of desperation to make our team the winning team. Even if the win is just a self-justified win.
Leviticus 19:15 “You shall do no injustice in judging a case; you shall not be partial to the poor or show a preference for the mighty, but in righteousness and according to the merits of the case judge your neighbor.“ Don’t we sometimes (maybe way too often) play a game of rugby with the people around us as well? We speak judgment without knowing the merit of the case. We interfere, and jump to conclusions without knowing the facts. We sit on the side-line and discuss and speculate about others’ lives. |
Matthew 7:1 – 2 “Do not judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves. For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you use to deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you.”
Before you speak judgment again, take the time to evaluate facts instead of opinions. And willingly become an intercessor for a friend in need, instead of blowing the whistle from the side-line. Prayer have saved many lives, gossip unfortunately never. We can only win warriors for Christ, if we fight the battle with good moral values!
With the same measure that you judge others, God will one day judge you. So if you hope and wish for subtle judgment, don’t be too hard on your neighbor!
