I see so many people who just shrug their shoulders and say non-gallantly “It’s not my responsibility” I’ve been challenged these last few weeks on responsibility. What is your Christian responsibility? To put it plainly:
what is your CREATION responsibility? Isn’t just to easy to say "It wasn’t me"? Pondering the meaning of the word itself, I realized I don’t really understand it completely. So trusty dictionary open I read: re·spon·si·bil·i·ty (rəˌspänsəˈbilədē/) noun: responsibility the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or of having control over someone. E.g. "women bear children and take responsibility for child care" Synonyms: authority, control, power, leadership I know, understand and accept that I am responsible for my household. Also the people I take into spiritual care. (Pray for, teach, guide and help) Responsibility was given to us as a blessing. Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” |
However, we need to understand what exactly is our responsibility, because manipulating it can end up in a power hungry control environment where only your authority reigns.
the state or fact of being accountable or to blame for something. E.g:"the group has claimed responsibility for a string of murders" Synonyms: blame, fault, guilt, culpability, liability
Blame was build into our humanity from creation. Genesis 3:12“The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” Well well Adam! He blamed Eve, then God for his own action. I feel that this is were most of us sometimes fail. We don’t want to “man up” for the things we do. It is a lot easier to blame others, and even more so to blame God. Our Father will not give you ANYTHING unrighteous to do. Why do you blame Him then for your own actions? True responsibility comes from a righteous heart.

the opportunity or ability to act independently and make decisions without authorization. Eg"we would expect individuals lower down the organization to take on more responsibility" Say WHAT? (Yes, I had to read it again…) I have the ability to act on my own and make decisions without asking anybody or getting authorization. Then what I’ve decided, I am responsible for. Romans 13:4 “For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.” We act on our own will at times, and when the result is not what we wanted, we run to God. One specific verse I take to heart on a daily, even hourly basis is Matthew 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” |
So when is it really not your responsibility? Ask yourself the following questions: Is it my duty? Do I have control over the situation? Is it your fault? Do you feel guilty or liable? Did you make the decision out of your own will? Consult with God and take up your creation responsibility. Do not take up the burden of responsibility in certain situations when it is not yours to carry.
